WINCHESTER, Ky. (LEX 18) — A teacher from George Rogers Clark High School was killed in a crash early Thursday morning, school officials confirm.
Rich McCune of Jackson died in a head on collision involinvg a UPS truck on Highway 15 at the Breathitt and Wolfe County line. The principal tells LEX 18 that McCune was on his way to school. He was a first year special education teacher.
According to the student newspaper, McCune's wife was also a teacher. He previously taught in Breathitt County. UK Athletics also confirms that McCune was briefly on the UK Football team during his freshman year.
Grief counselors are on hand at the school. There is no word on what caused the crash.
