LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Dozens of new winter coats are heading to local children after a Macy's coat drive on Saturday morning.

The department store teamed up with a local nonprofit called Believing in Forever to put on the event.

Customers were able to buy or bring new coats to the Macy's Fayette store to have them donated.

They will be given to kids in central and eastern Kentucky just in time for the official start of this winter season.

"There are a lot of people that have to wait out at bus stops both here in the urban areas, but also in the rural areas," said Jennifer Maggard with Macy's. "They go to school in a lot of inclement weather and it's really important for each child to have the gift of warmth."

The drive went from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday. The Macy's at Fayette Mall donated $3,000 for the cause.
