LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — COVID-19 cases are rising in Fayette County as a growing number of cases are reported over the Thanksgiving weekend.
The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department says Lexington reported 573 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend: 334 Saturday, 239 Sunday.
There have been 17,239 cases and 112 deaths total since the outbreak began in March.
The health department says COVID-19 is spreading rapidly, with the time between thousand-case marks decreasing:

- 16,000: Nov. 24
- 15,000: Nov. 20
- 14,000: Nov. 16
- 13,000: Nov. 11
- 12,000: Nov. 5
- 11,000: Oct. 29
- 10,000: Oct. 20

- 7,000: Sept. 11
- 6,000: Sept. 2
- 5,000: Aug. 23
