LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Free COVID-19 testing will be available at Shiloh Baptist Church this week as part of the City of Lexington’s Mobile Neighborhood Testing Program.

The program is in response to data showing Lexington’s Hispanic and African-American communities are disproportionately affected by COVID-19.

African-Americans make up 23-percent of Lexington’s positive COVID-19 cases, but only makeup 15-percent of the city’s population. Hispanics makeup 26-percent of Lexington’s positive COVID-19 cases but only account for 7-percent of the city’s population.

The goal of the Mobile Neighborhood Testing Program is to bring testing sites closer to where people live.

“This is very easy. They can just walk up. It might be a block from your house or two blocks from your house. So, it’s easy to access,” said Mayor Linda Gorton.

Testing is available at Shiloh Baptist Church for three days:

• 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, July 9

• 2-8 p.m. Friday, July 10

• 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, July 11

Drive-ups and walk-ups will be accepted. No appointment is necessary. Spanish-speakers will also be available on-site to help.
