LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Regardless of the restrictions, Father Jim Sichko wanted to spread kindness this St. Patrick's Day.

He teamed up with Zim's Cafe owner Ouita Michel to provide free Irish themed meals for families as well as an extra meal intended to be given to someone else.

"It's important that we recognize that these restrictions are put in place for a reason," Sichko said of the changes that have been made to prevent the spread of coronavirus, "but it doesn't mean that we hide in our homes and not reach out and be kind."

The meals were delivered curbside and many drivers said they were planning to give meals to neighbors or family who can't leave home, he said.

"It's a difficult time right now," he said, "but we're going to make it and it's a positive message and that's what I'm trying to share through this."

While families can't eat out at restaurants right now, this gesture can bring families together at home, Michel said.

"We've got to do what we can to reduce our stress and to come together and support one another," she said, "and so food can do that."
