Gov. Beshear: 5,742 new cases of COVID-19 in Kentucky, record daily number

FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) — Gov. Andy Beshear has announced the highest-ever daily report of COVID-19 cases in the commonwealth and the highest positivity rate since May 5.

"Today's numbers show how critically important a centralized effort and response is to defeating this virus," said Gov. Beshear.

There are 5,742 new cases in Kentucky. 34 more people have died from the virus, bringing the death total in the state to 2,806. The state's positivity rate is 11.7%

1,778 people are currently in the hospital with COVID-19, 428 are in the ICU, and 244 are on a ventilator.

Top counties with the most positive cases today are: Jefferson, Fayette, Warren, Kenton and Daviess. Each of these counties reported 200 or more new cases; Jefferson County alone reported 828.
