LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — After waiting over two months, many people are excited to get back in the chair for a fresh hair cut. But there are some changes you should expect.

For two and a half months, Atea Hair Salon has had their doors closed. While the salon is excited to welcome clients again, Atea, like salons across the state, are making some drastic changes to how they operate on a daily basis.

"Now we're completely restructuring our schedule so that we're going to be here seven days a week, 12 hour days so that only four stylists are here at any given hair time and that way we can stick with social distancing," Atea Owner Lydia Nemeth said.

Every stylist will be wearing a face mask and have their temperature checked.

"Our shampoo bowls are going to be spaced 6 feet apart, our stations are six feet apart, and then we've always been really clean but we are just going the extra step," Nemeth said.

As for clients, Nemeth says the salon is asking their clients to wait in their cars.

"We request that our clients wear masks. But obviously, when you're getting hair color applied, you can't wear during the entire service, because you'll get hair color on the mask so you can take it off a that point in time," Nemeth said.

Every salon will have a different protocol.

"Just because you see one of your friends going to a salon with a specific type of guideline, doesn't mean that your salon will do that as well so just keep that in mind," Nemeth said.

Only one person per household is allowed inside the salon.
