LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department is reporting its highest one-day increase since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

Health officials say Monday had another one-day high with 116 new cases, bringing the city's total to 2,972 cases and 45 deaths. There have been 793 cases reported in the last two weeks; there were 793 total cases in the month of June.

The city's 15 highest one-day totals have all been in July:

• 116 cases, July 27
• 100 cases, July 23
• 83 cases, July 9
• 69 cases, July 15
• 67 cases, July 26
• 65 cases, July 10
• 62 cases, July 6
• 61 cases, July 20
• 58 cases, July 13
• 56 cases, July 11
• 53 cases, July 22
• 48 cases, July 16
• 47 cases, July 17, July 24
• 46 cases, July 1

The department says Lexington will likely continue to have more cases, leading to potential limitations in the capacity of our healthcare delivery system to take care of our sickest patients. Follow these guidelines to help protect others by slowing the spread of COVID-19:

• Wash your hands often
• Avoid close contact with others
• Wear a cloth face covering in public
