LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Some residents of a senior living community in Lexington got a special visit on Wednesday afternoon.

Two horses from Blue Willow Farm in Versailles spread some joy at the Legacy at Fritz Farm.

Residents were grinning ear-to-ear as the four-hooved guests walked around the building visiting with everyone.

Some residents waved from their balconies while others pet the horses, and a few even wanted to give the animals a hug.

“Joy, pure joy. Happy tears, just overwhelmed in a good way. It’s been pretty special,” said horse owner Julie Kaufman.

Kaufman says the American Saddlebred and Morgan usually would be giving riding lessons, so they wanted to find something else meaningful for them to do.

Susie Day’s mom lives in memory care at the Legacy, and she says there few things that could mean more than this.

“They’re isolated, they’re alone, they’re confused. They don’t understand why they can’t see us or why we can’t see them. And for this to happen - look at the parking lot, they’re lit up,” said Day.

Kaufman says she has plans to take the horses to visit more facilities in the next week.
