LEXINGTON, KY (LEX 18) — Lexington Mayor Linda Gorton has announced Government buildings will restrict access to walk-in visitors effective Monday, March 23, 2020 until further notice. "Generally, government employees whose work allows for telecommuting are working from home," Gorton said. That involves about 700 people.

“However, we have many positions where people cannot telecommute … like police and fire officers or street crews,” Gorton said. Those employees have been instructed to exercise social distance in the work place.

Police Headquarters will not be open for public access. Any police reports can be submitted online or by calling 859-258-3600. As always, call 911 for emergencies.

Lexington Fire Stations are currently closed to public walk-in traffic, except during an emergency.

The city has suspended the recycling of electronic waste, but other recycling services and garbage pick-up will continue.

Mayor Gorton announced the New Life Day Center has suspended the Panhandler Jobs program because it cannot operate while maintaining social distancing.
