LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Lexington now has more than 21,000 COVID-19 cases, the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department announced Wednesday.

The city reported an additional 170 new cases Tuesday, bringing the total to 21,005 since the outbreak began in March. There have also been 143 deaths during the outbreak.

Hospitalizations from COVID-19 are also continuing to increase, with 1,133 Lexington residents having been hospitalized from COVID-19 during the pandemic, according to LFCHD.

Although the vaccine has started being distributed to healthcare workers and long-term care facilities, it won’t be widely available for the general public until later in 2021.
