LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Lexington reported 2,538 new COVID-19 cases in August, making it the highest monthly total during the pandemic, the Lexington-Fayette County Health Department said Tuesday.
There have been 5,793 total cases since March 8, the date of Fayette County’s first case, with 44% reported last month alone.
There were also 23 deaths in August, bringing the total to 58.
The number of reported cases has grown steadily each month during the outbreak:

Eight of Lexington’s 11 highest one-day totals were in August, with 27 days seeing 58 cases or more:
- 131 cases, Aug. 7
- 119 cases, Aug. 28

- 105 cases, Aug. 4, Aug. 14
- 102 cases, Aug. 26
- 101 cases, Aug. 13
- 100 cases, July 23
