LOUISVILLE, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Louisville coronavirus patient will be one of the first in the world to participate in a clinical study focusing on the effectiveness of a cancer drug on COVID-19.
According to Norton Healthcare, the drug is showing promise in blocking a cellular protein that researchers believe is linked to spreading COVID-19 to cells in the body.
The clinical trial is being conducted at 40 locations globally.
A hematologist and oncologist with Norton Cancer Institute is leading the local study.
