LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — The City of Lexington's Mobile Neighborhood Testing Program will be back in the Cardinal Valley neighborhood for a second round of testing.

Free drive-up or walk-up testing will be available at the following locations this week to slow down the spread of COVID-19:

  • Thursday, July 23: 11 a.m.-7 p.m. at Cardinal Valley Elementary, 218 Mandalay Road
  • Friday, July 24: 12-8 p.m. at Cardinal Valley Elementary, 218 Mandalay Road
  • Saturday, July 25: 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Valley Park, 2077 Cambridge Drive

As of Tuesday, the city has reported 2,521 COVID-19 cases, including 41 deaths. That's an increase of 61 new cases from the day before.

The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department says cases are disproportionately affecting the city's African-American and Hispanic populations. Of the 2,521 cases, 528 of them (21%) are among African-Americans, a group that makes up 15% of the city's population. 683 of the cases (27%) involve people who identify as Hispanic, a group that makes up 7% of Lexington's population.

For those concerned about possibly being exposed to COVID-19, drive-ups and walk-ups will be accepted. No appointment is necessary. Bluewater Diagnostic Laboratory will offer the tests at no cost to the patient. Testers will ask for insurance, but testing is free, even without insurance. Bluewater can process up to 1,000 tests a day.

Face masks and hand sanitizer will be provided to those being tested. On-site interpretation services will be available. The City says they are researching options for additional public testing.

Drive-thru testing is also available seven days a week at the Walgreen's testing location at 2296 Executive Drive (the corner of Winchester Road and Executive Drive). Tests will continue until they run out of test kits. Online registration is required. Click here to register.

In addition, drive-thru testing is available, at least through July, at the Kroger Health testing site at Bluegrass Community & Technical College Newtown Campus. The testing entrance is located off Loudon Avenue near the intersection with Newtown Pike. Testing is available by appointment, which you can do by clicking here. Appointments are scheduled Tuesday through Friday.
