More than 6,000 cases reported in Lexington in November, more than September and October combined

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — More than 6,000 new COVID-19 cases have been reported in Lexington throughout the month of November.

The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department says 6,070 new COVID-19 cases were reported in November, including 164 on Monday. That's more than the previous two months combined (5,540 cases in September/October).

Health officials say there have been 17,403 total cases since March 8 (the date of Fayette County's first case), with almost 35% of all cases coming in November alone. There were also 14 deaths in November, bringing the total to 113.

The monthly totals of COVID-19 cases during the outbreak are:

  • 143, April
  • 507, May
  • 793, June
  • 1,702 July
  • 2,538, August
  • 2,804, September
  • 2,736, October
  • 6,070, November

The health department says to help slow the spread of COVID-19, people should follow these guidelines all the time:

  • Wear a cloth face-covering in public
  • Avoid close contact with others
  • Wash your hands often
  • Stay home if you are sick
