MT. STERLING, Ky. (LEX 18) — The COVID-19 pandemic has canceled another well-known Kentucky festival scheduled for this fall.

Court Days, Kentucky's oldest running festival, will not take place this year. Considered the "Ultimate Shopping" event, the four-day festival is a time when thousands visit downtown Mt. Sterling to buy, sell, or trade goods. The event typically starts on a Friday and ends on the 3rd Monday of October.

The final decision to cancel the festival was announced on Tuesday, citing safety reasons.

"The health and safety of our community and of the attendees is always a top priority, so during these uncertain times, the committee and I feel it is in the best interest of the community and potential attendees to cancel the festival this year," Mayor Al Botts says. "Although we all love and cherish this event, and look forward to sharing our community with tens of thousands of visitors, the risk of holding the event far outweighs the reward."

Organizers say the festival will take place on October 15-18 of next year, and plans are already underway.
