(LEX 18) — The Kentucky Derby is traditionally held on the first Saturday of May, but has been postponed this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Old Forester still plans to have a race Saturday, only with turtles.

On Saturday, May 2, eight turtles will square off in what's being called the "Slowest Eight Minutes in Sports."

Coverage of the race will begin at 7:00 p.m. on Old Forester's YouTube channel.

Old Forester officials say they will continue Kentucky Derby themes and traditions by involving horse racing announcer Larry Collmus calling the race remotely and Steve Buttleman, the race bugler at Churchill Downs will serenade viewers prior to the turtles taking off.

Old Forester encourages fans who tune in Saturday to donate to the Hospitality Industry Emergency Relief Fund. Brown-Forman has pledged to match every donation dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000.
