(LEX 18) — The pandemic could cause back-to-school sales this fall to top a record-breaking $100 billion.

With many schools turning to online classes, parents are buying more laptops, desktops and computer accessories.

In a national retail federation report released Wednesday, families on average are expected to spend about $790. That's up from last year's $697.

Families with college students are projected to spend $1,060.
