FT. WRIGHT, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Kentucky gym owner has started a petition asking Gov. Andy Beshear to approve boutique gyms to re-open during Phase 1.

Like all gyms in the state, Ft. Wright Crossfit has been empty since March 17.

"We've tried to stay in contact with our people though. We kind of divided our membership up between coaches, they get daily texts from us and they get full length workouts and full length workout videos," Kyle Stark said.

Kyle Stark opened Ft. Wright Crossfit eight years ago. And he started a petition, for boutique gyms, like his, to be able to open in Phase 1. Stark believes the smaller gyms have more flexibility to follow CDC guidelines.

"The YMCA or Planet Fitness, there's thousands and thousands of members there. We maybe have a couple hundred. We could use a reservation system, we could limit it to 10 people," Stark said.

The gym owner says he's even adjusted their floor plan, making room for clients to be more than six feet apart from each other and their instructor at all times.

"Here, our clients can show up and we can completely lead them through the workout," Stark explained. "All of their equipment can be in their spot, we can lead them through that and then we can lead them through a disinfectant procedure at the end."

His goal is for gyms to be considered individually, instead of categorized together.
