RED RIVER GORGE, Ky. (LEX 18) — After shutting down due to the coronavirus panemic for almost two months, the trails at Red River Gorge are open once again.

The return of hikers meant that rescue teams in counties surrounding the Gorge were on alert.

On Saturday morning, the Wolfe County Search and Rescue Team jumped into action to respond to a call of seven lost hikers in the northern section of the Gorge.

WCSART was able to track down the group by using coordinates from a cell phone.

Wearing their PPE to protect themselves and others, team members navigated the trails to find the group about 2.5 miles from their vehicle.

In a post on Facebook, WCSART says each member of the located group was given a mask as they were walked back to safety.
