LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — You may not be able to dine at your favorite restaurant right now, but there are still plenty of options available for takeout and delivery, but that process looks a little different.

The FDA says there is no evidence that food or food packaging is associated with the transmission of COVID-19. It's the human to human contact that we have to be vigilant about.

If you order food to be delivered, some restaurants have options for contactless delivery, where a driver can leave the food at your door.

If you are going to the restaurant to pick up your meal, you can wear gloves as an effective way to avoid touching contaminated surfaces.

Once in your car, place it on the floorboard or somewhere no one will touch it.

When you are home, wash your hands for 20 seconds, and if you wore gloves, throw them out.

It's advised to put food on a plate you have in your home. Use utensils to do so, and then, throw out the bag and container. Once that is done, wash your hands again.

If you are immuno-compromised and worried, you can put your food in the microwave for 30 seconds to kill any possibility of the virus.
