(LEX 18) — Governor Andy Beshear continues to express disagreement with controversial comments made last week by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

The Governor said he "strongly disagrees" with Senator McConnell's comments that declaring bankruptcy might be best for state and local governments. That was during an interview with CNN on Saturday.

Senator McConnell's comments continue to draw criticism from leaders across the country.

"I think that's astounding that any public servant would say that a state ought to go into bankruptcy," said Florida (D) Representative Charlie Crist, "We're in a pandemic. This is a crisis."

McConnell expressed concern over the national debt when he made the comments during an interview with a conservative radio host last Wednesday.
