GEORGETOWN, Ky. (LEX 18) — Johnson’s Funeral Home is offering to make free videos honoring graduating high school seniors in Scott County.

Dana Boggs said the video came as a blessing for her 18-year-old daughter Jenna, who was devastated by the cancellation of end-of-year senior activities, including prom and senior breakfast.

“It’s heartbreaking to watch your child be sad and know what they’re missing out on,” said Dana Boggs. “(The videos) brought a lot of light to this subject and made us see that the community is really wanting to come together and support our seniors.”

Johnson’s Funeral Home announced the service Tuesday on their Facebook page. Funeral director Toney Chaney said they had more than 25 requests overnight.

“We’re getting an overwhelming response right now,” said Chaney.

Chaney explained the funeral home will normally edit a tribute video for families who have lost a loved one. He said they recycled the idea to offer celebratory videos graduating seniors and their families can hold on to forever.

Families can submit approximately 200 pictures which will be edited and converted into a DVD for them to watch. Chaney estimates videos could be as long as 20 minutes.

“We’ll have to kind of be like Henry Ford and figure out an assembly line to get everything finished and out,” he said.

Chaney said the staff at Johnson’s Funeral Home is excited to help put a positive spin on a bad situation, even if it means putting in the extra work. In order to guarantee they can deliver to everyone, the service has been limited to Scott County residents. However, graduating students from both public and private schools can request a video.

“We’re already starting to look through pictures to pick them out. We cannot wait,” said Boggs.

If you have questions about the video tributes, you can call Johnson’s Funeral Home at 502-863-3550. If you would like a video made, you can send contact information to gradvideo@yahoo.com. After contact information is received, a staff member will reach out with a link for you to begin uploading pictures and videos.
