LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — Lexington shut down most of its public athletic facilities back in March due to the pandemic, but now more things will open back up.

Golf courses are already back in business. On Monday, May 11, tennis and pickleball courts will open back up.

"Our dream is to see people out in the parks out on our sports courts playing so this has been a very trying time for us to have to discourage from doing those things," Lexington Parks and Recreation Special Events Service Manager Michelle Franzetti said. "So we are excited to start finding ways to bring people back to our parks safely."

That means added precautions though. On Monday they will install tennis and pickleball courts, but they will remove movable benches and they will only install about 50 percent of the nets to help promote social distancing.

On Wednesday boat docks at Jacobsen park will also open. They are trying to eliminate cash transactions so they are asking people to pay with credit cards.

At this time basketball courts, playgrounds, and skate parks will still remain closed.
