FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) — During Gov. Andy Beshear's press conference on Tuesday, state officials explained the top reasons why Kentuckians may not have received their first unemployment benefit yet.

They are as follows:

  • You're still in the 13-15 day window since filing.
  • You requested an initial payment or opened additional claims.
  • Your identity still needs to be verified.
  • Your claim is still under investigation.

The Education and Workforce Development Cabinet Deputy Secretary Josh Benton said your claim could be under investigation due to an employer protest, missing information, a multi-state claim or a past unemployment insurance issue.

Benton said the State answered more than 20,000 calls on Monday, but he admitted that still isn't enough. He said it's their commitment to get to everyone as quickly as they can to get the issues resolved.

"If you haven't been helped yet, it's not enough," Beshear said. "Keep at it and to everyone out there that is anxious and worried that their payment won't come, that's having to wait too long, it's on me. I'm your Governor. We will work, and we will work, and we will work to make sure to get what you need to get through this crisis."
