CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A western Kentucky couple faces federal charges after prosecutors said they bilked over $600,000 from an elderly man with dementia.

The scheme is alleged to have taken place in Christian County between 2013 and 2016.

Marvin and Cynthia Upton are charged with conspiracy, bank fraud and filing false tax returns.

They are accused of convincing the man to withdraw money from two bank accounts and give it to them, as well as to give them power of attorney over his retirement.

If found guilty, they face up to 30 years in prison for the conspiracy and fraud charges.
