55-year-old man killed in ATV crash near London on New Year's Day, death investigation underway

A 55-year-old Kentucky man died Thursday evening after his ATV "apparently" overturned into a creek around nine miles north of London, the Laurel County Sheriff's Office reported.

Officials detailed that Michael Strong of Paris was seriously injured when his ATV crashed near Callahan Falls around 6:45 p.m. on Jan. 1. Strong was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later by the Laurel County Coroner.

The coroner has ordered an autopsy to determine the cause of death, officials added. Further, authorities are conducting a death investigation into the off-road crash.

Laurel County Sheriff John Root reports that an ATV overturned into a creek near Callahan Falls just before 6:45 p.m.

The driver was transported to St. Joseph Hospital.
