LINCOLN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — Police have arrested a Stanford man who is accused of causing “severe injuries” to his newborn son in Lincoln County.

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department says 26-year-old Justin Thomas April was arrested Tuesday on warrant filed by Kentucky State Police.

According to the warrant, the child’s mother brought the 4-month-old boy to Fort Logan Hospital in Stanford on Aug. 12. Hospital staff discovered the boy “had severe bleeding on the brain and multiple severe internal injuries from abuse.”

Police said they determined that the boy had been in April’s care when the injuries took place and say April admitted causing the injuries Aug. 14 during questioning.

April was charged with first-degree assault “as a result of a small child suffering severe injuries,” according to the sheriff’s office.

He was being held in the Lincoln County Detention Center.
