LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A man being held in a 2016 residential burglary and assault now is facing a murder charge after the woman died of her injuries two years later.

In a superseding indictment, a Fayette County grand jury charged 37-year-old David Joel Williams with capital murder with an aggravating circumstance of first-degree burglary.

Authorities say Williams entered a home on Dogwood Drive on Aug. 5, 2016, and attacked 82-year-old Hilda Mae Pike. Pike, who was stabbed, died July 15, 2018.

Williams was already in custody charged with first-degree assault and first-degree burglary.

An indictment was handed down earlier this week in which his charges were upgraded to murder.

Lexington police said they used DNA evidence to link Williams to the crime scene.

He was being held in the Fayette County Detention Center. He is scheduled to be arraigned on the murder charge Sept. 7.
