ROWAN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis is being used to question the pope’s honesty and trustworthiness. This comes as the Catholic church deals with new claims of sexual abuse.

A former Vatican official is claiming those closest to the pope lied about a controversial meeting with Davis in 2015.

Davis is the woman who refused to sign same-sex marriage certificates citing her Christian faith.

At the time, a papal spokesperson suggested that the pope didn’t know who Davis was.

But a former top archbishop says he briefed officials ahead of the visit, even handing the pope a memo regarding the meeting.

The archbishop also claims Pope Francis ignored his warnings about sexual misconduct allegations surrounding former Washington D.C. cardinal Theodore McCarrick.
