LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – The UK chapter of Sigma Chi Fraternity has been suspended for one year due to rule violations.

UK spokesperson Jay Blanton confirms the suspension. A letter from the Office of Student Conduct reveals that the chapter was suspended after members accepted responsibility for the use of alcohol, marijuana and the unapproved possession of property.

The letter says that a pledge class participated in a party in which drugs and alcohol were used and items were stolen from a date party.

The chapter had previously been placed on probation in the spring semester of 2016. The student newspaper, the Kentucky Kernel, reports that the probation was related to alcohol and hazing violations.

LEX 18 will update this story as more information is received.
