WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (LEX 18) — A Kentucky university announced Tuesday it is reducing tuition by nearly 60 percent beginning next fall.

The Williamsburg-based University of the Cumberlands said tuition for undergraduate students at its campus will fall to $9,875 in Fall 2019, from the current $23,000 price tag.

University President Larry Cockrum is calling the initiative The Cumberlands Commitment.

The plan has been in the works for a few years and President Cockrum said the timing is finally right and it is the right thing to do.

“We’ve had enrollment growth and we really looked at the numbers, we really studied it hard. In looking at the tuition, we found out that we could pass the savings on to our undergraduate students,” said Cockrum.
