According to Wayne County Schools, 7-year-old Grayson Denny first mentioned the flag’s condition to his grandfather when he was being picked up from Bell Elementary School.

It was not long before Grayson’s dad, a retired soldier who served in both Afghanistan and Iraq, learned about his son’s observation too.

School officials say by the next morning the family had purchased a new flag. Grayson and his Dad removed the old flag and raised the new one with the help of the principal.

Bell Elementary Principal Derrick Harris said he was delighted that one of his students’ had been so patriotic. He commended Grayson and thanked his parent for the contribution and service to the country.
