(LEX 18) — Hurricane Florence continues to strengthen and is expected to make landfall Thursday night along the East Coast. LEX 18 talked with some Kentucky natives who are now on the coast in the storm’s path.

“it wasn’t until today that we really started packing everything up, getting everything moved away from windows, getting everything off the floors because there’s going to be a lot of potential flooding here probably. And that’s where a lot of people are getting kind of scared,” said Nikita Denton.

She grew up in Wolfe County, Kentucky, and her husband grew up in Garrard County, Kentucky. They now live on a military base in Jacksonville, North Carolina. She said people there are getting ready.

“I know I went to Walmart the other day and all the water was completely gone. At one of the Walmart’s butter was gone, bread was gone, obviously milk,” said Denton.

The Dentons are not taking any chances with Hurricane Florence.

“My husband says that things will probably be closing down on Wednesday, so we’ll probably be evacuating to Kentucky come Wednesday and bringing some friends with them,” she said.
