LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) — A 4-year-old boy remained hospitalized with grave injuries Sunday and a University of Kentucky freshman was charged with driving under the influence and hitting the child.

Police say 18-year-old Jacob Heil was driving a vehicle while under the influence about 2 p.m. Saturday when he drove into the boy, who was walking with his father.

The incident happened on Cooper Drive and Scoville Road, just blocks from Kroger Field.

The boy was taken to an area hospital with what were described as life-threatening injuries. An update on the child’s condition has not been disclosed.

A University of Kentucky spokesman confirmed that Heil is a freshman at the school.

UK’s student government released a statement on Twitter regarding transportation issues on campus.
