ROWAN COUNTY, Ky (LEX 18)– Funeral arrangements have been announced for the 9-year-old Rowan County boy who was killed after being swept away in floodwaters.

Rescue crews and volunteers searched for Bryce Combs for seven days. They searched on air, on land, and in water. Some even searched at night.

Thousands of people drove in from other counties and states to help in the week-long search.

Sadly, he was found deceased on Sunday.

A local priest, Father Jim Sichko, was inspired by how the community came together after a little boy was swept away in fast-moving floodwaters, and now he wants to help the family.

The funeral home was already working to help the family with the funeral cost, but Sichko decided to pay for the burial and any other expenses.

Visitation for Bryce will be held Thursday from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Northcutt and Son Home for Funerals in Morehead. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Northcutt.

Several first responders, including the Emergency Management Director, will serve as pallbearers. Mayor Trent will be an honorary pallbearer.

A scholarship fund has been established in Bryce’s name.

You can donate to it by contacting the Citizens Bank of Morehead at (606) 780-0000. All proceeds from the fund will be divided into a scholarship fund in Bryce’s name and to Bryce’s family.

The fund and the distribution of the money will be monitored by Pastor Jeff Fannin and members of the Clearfield Elementary PTC, according to a Facebook post by Morehead City Hall.
