LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – The coroner has officially released the cause of death of the 4-year-old who was struck by an alleged drunk driver on Cooper Drive Saturday.

4-year-old Marco Shemwell’s cause of death has been listed as multiple blunt force injuries. Officials say 18-year-old Jacob Heil was driving on Cooper Drive near Scoville when he struck the boy.

Shemwell died two days after the crash.

One of Marco’s former daycare teachers described him as a sweet and playful boy.

“Marco was such a joy to be around. Always so eager to learn about what this big world had to offer. At daycare we got to watch him grow up along friends, their friendships turned in sibling-like bonds, looking out for one another; pure love. And for my teachers and I, he became family to us,” she wrote.

A GoFundMe page has been established to raise money for the family in their time of need.
