LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– A murder investigation is underway following the death of an infant.
According to the coroner, 4-month-old Landon Mays died as a result of abusive head trauma Sept. 8.
On Sept. 5, officers responded to the UK Hospital in reference to a child abuse report. Mays had been transported to the hospital for an apparent seizure. Medical personnel reported to officers that the boy was suffering from head trauma that was possibly suspicious and non-accidental. Mays died a few days later.
This investigation is being led by the Lexington Police Special Victims Section. Detectives are awaiting lab results from an out of state medical examiner. They do not expect an arrest to be made soon.
