GRAYSON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A grand jury will consider the case of a Grayson County teenager accused of slashing his grandmother’s throat.

Police say 18-year-old Douglas Barton cut his grandmother’s throat and stabbed her several times Sept. 7 before calling 911 to report the injuries.

When officers arrived at the Leitchfield home, they found the woman lying in the driveway.

She survived the attack and was hospitalized with critical injuries.

Following a preliminary hearing earlier this week, the judge ordered the case move to a grand jury, which will determine whether Barton will be indicted and face trial.

He originally was charged with attempted murder and tampering with physical evidence.
