LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) The Lexington Fayette County Health Department confirms that a patient at the Hope Center’s Privett Recovery Center tested positive for hepatitis A.

LFCHD tells LEX 18 the diagnosis occurred sometime last week and that the center responded quickly.  Vaccinations have been provided to those in the program. Despite being a high-risk population, it is believed that there is no additional risk to the patients.

Hepatitis A can easily be prevented with a vaccine. Symptoms include:

  • flu-like symptoms (fever, fatigue, body aches)
  • abdominal pain (especially in the right upper quadrant)
  • light-colored stool
  • dark urine
  • loss of appetite
  • unexplained weight loss
  • jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes

The health department is recommending that everyone, even those not in high-risk populations, gets the vaccine.
