LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18)– The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded $1.7 million in supplemental funding to the Blue Grass Airport for airport infrastructure grants, U.S. Department of Transportation Secretay Elaine Chao announced Thursday.

This funding is in addition to the $57.9 million already awarded to Kentucky in Airport Improvement Program funding through this current fiscal year. This grant is one of 37 grants to airports in 34 states.

The grant will provide funding for the final phase of a new Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting building at Blue Grass Airport.

“We have competed with airports all across the country for this grant and we had a very good project that I think the FAA certainly had an interest in and this discretionary funds became available, and of course, we pursued that grant and we were successful, and we’re very pleased to be one of a handful of airports that got this grant,” said Eric Frankl, the Executive Director of Blue Grass Airport.
