LEXINGTON, Ky. (Smart Asset) — According to SmartAsset.com, Lexington is one of the most affordable city for early retirement.

On top of that, Lexington ranked in the top 10 for cost of living, health care and housing.

Jimmy Jackson has lived in Kentucky his whole life. When he retired from a career in education five years ago, he decided that Lexington was the place to be.

“You get a lot of the advantages of a big city, but we’ve still got a small town atmosphere and there’s just so many restaurants, so much entertainment here in Lexington, so much to do. Sports, all those different types of things. You know, for someone who wants to do things, perfect place,” said Jackson.

Jackson works part-time at Keeneland. That is where he met Toni and Carol, a pair of sisters from Harrison County, who also chose Lexington for their retirement.

Beyond loving their 28 years of part-time work, they both feel this town is the whole package.

Jake Gibbs, who has lived in Lexington for 40 years says his favorite parts are the biking trails and the libraries. He said he’s even convinced his friends to move here.

“Overall just a wonderful, friendly, place to live and I can’t imagine living any place else,” said Gibbs.
