POWELL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– Some nature fans have visited the Red River Gorge lately hoping for vibrant colors, but are instead finding the trees are still green.

“They’re just falling off the tree, they’re just turning brown and falling off the tree,” said Powell County Director of Tourism Serena Bowen. “Normally, we probably would’ve been seeing color now, and we haven’t for the last few years, just due to all this rain pattern that we’ve been in.”

A lot of ran has been dumped on the Commonwealth over the past month and according to the National Weather Service, when warm, cloudy, and rainy weather dominates the fall season, leaves tend to have less coloration.

What would really make those colors pop is something we haven’t been seeing, cool nights.
