BARDSTOWN, Ky. (LEX 18)– The disappearance of Crystal Rogers has caught nationwide attention and now the family worries someone is trying to cash in.

Sherry Ballard said that her family would never ask for money directly and she was upset to see an image of her daughter used in a fake fundraising page.

“They were asking for money. We’ve never asked for money. Ever. The whole time we’ve ever did this, we’ve never asked people for money,” said Ballard.

She said there are ways to tell that the page is a fake.

“Number one, I would’ve never posted a picture of my daughter with Brooks Houck,” she said.

Houck is Roger’s ex-boyfriend, the man Ballard believes killed her daughter. It has been more than three years since Rogers’ disappearance and there’s been no sign of the mother of five and no charges have been filed in the case.

In November 2016, Ballard’s husband, Tommy, was shot and killed.

No arrests have been made in his case.

“And to think someone would try to gain anything from that, it’s heart-breaking. I can’t imagine doing that, and it’s just hard to accept,” said Ballard.

She said that recent television specials have inspired new tips and more searches.

Tommy and Crystal continue to give Sherry Ballard the strength to keep going.

“I would do anything for them.”
