GARRARD COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) – Police in Garrard County saved a woman from a house fire overnight in Lancaster.

Officials with the department say that they were called out to the home on Crab Orchard Drive in reference to a welfare check. A concerned father called police after saying his daughter would not respond to his calls or text.

Responding police found the woman inside and say she barricaded herself in a room and set fire to the residence. The officers then heard the sound of gunfire from within the bedroom.

An officer, identified as Allen Weston, kicked the door down and managed to drag the woman from a mattress that had been set on fire.

Officer Weston suffered minor burns. The female had only minor injuries. She was transported to the hospital.
