LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – The public may not have known it, but emergency management officials in Lexington had to deal with a huge headache during last night’s severe storms.

The Emergency Operation Center’s radio system took a direct hit from lightning.  The desktop version of communications system went down, but immediately transitioned to handheld devices ( a back up), which is standard protocol.

The public didn’t experience any service loss and most first responders most likely didn’t experience or notice any either.

While doing an analysis of the system, part of the operations were moved to the backup facility. Only radio communications were impacted, all other operations continued and no calls were dropped.
