FRANKFORT, Ky. (LEX 18) — The Kentucky Democratic Party filed an ethics complaint Tuesday against Govenor Matt Bevin, saying he illegally used taxpayer resources to help the campaign of GOP Congressman Andy Barr.

According to a news release sent out by KDP, Bevin used his official Twitter account last Saturday during President Donald Trump’s visit to Richmond to promote Barr’s candidacy.

Barr is locked in a fierce fight in Kentucky’s 6th Congressional District against Democratic rival Amy McGrath.

The KDP says Bevin later deleted the tweet after being criticized for it.

The democrats say Bevin’s tweet violated a Kentucky statues that prohibit the use of official positions and public resources and equipment for political use.

“Gov. Bevin is well-known for his flippant attitude about taxpayer resources. But this time he’s crossed the line,” Ben Self, chairman of the Kentucky Democratic Party, said in a statement. “This is an improper use of government resources and a violation of the public trust.”
