JOHNSON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– Nine male inmates have been charged in the foiled escape plan that was uncovered Oct. 15.

Big Sandy Regional Detention Center correction officers found the hole in the back wall of the inmates’ shower area during a routine security check causing the facility to be placed into lock-down.

All of the involved cell mates were charged with second-degree escape and first-degree criminal mischief.

Five of the inmates; Robbie Lee Prater, Curtis Dale Rowe, Jeffery Lee Stanley, Shannon Lee Jude and Keith Anthony Penix Jr. are being held on $10,000 cash bonds.

The other four inmates; Justin Derek Combs, John Douglas May, Daniel Edwin Bell and James Garrett Ison (all State Inmates) are being held on no bond allowed.

Both of the new charges are Class D Felonies and carry a possible sentence of one (1) to five (5) years and/or a $10,000.00 fine on each count if found guilty.

A preliminary hearing for the nine individuals has been scheduled for Oct. 24 at 11 a.m.
