ANDERSON COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– Anderson County Schools are closed Friday as a precaution due to a threat.

District officials were alerted late Thursday evening by the Kentucky State Police of a high potential possible, credible threat to a school system being investigated with ties to two central Kentucky counties, including Anderson and Shelby.

No staff or students are to report to any school. District officials will be monitoring the situation closely and will provide updates via one call, district website and social media as they are available.

Determination about extra-curricular events scheduled for Friday afternoon and evening will be made and communicated later in the day, once additional information is received from KSP.

School daycare sites are also closed.

Shelby County Schools, which are on fall break, released a statement regarding the cancellation of extracurricular activities.

“The most important thing is that law enforcement and schools worked closely together. Safety is very important and we always want to make sure kids and staff are safe,” said public relations coordinator Cyndi Skellie.
