MARION COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18)– Police in Marion County are warning homeowners about a recent string of thefts involving barn lumber.

There are four different cases over the last month where suspects have stripped lumber off an old barn or other wooden structure. There are two suspected thieves involved, according to Sheriff Jimmy Clements.

“They’re just stripping this lumber off of the barn and once they get it off, they’re taking saws and trimming up the edges and the ends of the lumber, and that’s the excess you see left here,” said Clements.

Clements said that the thefts started at a barn on the property of Hayden materials.

“We’re looking at a high dollar amount here, in excess of $15,000 with lumber and some metal off of this bam,” said Clements.

Police believe that the suspects are bringing the lumber to a place in Green County where it is being sold. The sheriff said that they’re on the verge of making arrests, but that in the meantime, the public should be vigilant.

The sheriff’s office declined to disclose the sites of the other thefts.
